Often somewhat dreamlike, my work explores an inner landscape, where relationship with the natural world is an essential reflection.

When in my studio, it fuels my purpose to feel that I’m working for nature. These days, when selling paintings or prints, it provides me personal meaning to donate a percentage of the purchase price to a charity for habitat preservation, conservation, or for directly fostering wildlife care.

Beautiful Lake of Bays, where my great grandparents and now I call home, comprises part of the Anishinabek Nation’s indiginous homeland — land that was usurped in 1850 by Robinson-Huron Treaty 61. For thousands of years before my ancestors, Anishinabek peoples knew this land and its waterways intimately, knew how to thrive here with such immense respect that they left the environment pristine, the creatures and resources abundant.
Now, my heart is heavy to reconcile the innumerable forms of violence, suffering and inequities experienced/still being experienced by generations of indigenous peoples across this country. And, I humbly acknowledge the forced sacrifices my people’s government and religious authorities imposed on the original inhabitants of this land. My gratitude for being born here — a land where from my earliest memories, I have experienced reverence and connection — has now become a very ‘complicated gratitude’.
For these reasons it is important for me to:
-Listen to, and learn from indigenous voices, about the past and about the present…
-Recognize truths and speak up
-Demonstrate that my privilege comes with responsibility
-Increase my knowledge, to respect and protect this place and all the beings who rely on it, to the best of my ability
-Find meaningful ways to give back
